At last I managed to publish part of the interview with Lilia I did in May last year. As I explained back then, there were some technical problems, especially with the sound, that makes the material less attractive for use.

On and off I’ve been working on a solution, but without a result so far. Weird things happened while remarrying the separately edited audiostream with the videostream.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to compromise and just use the material as is and start pushing out snippets of the four interviews I have so far (it’s only the first two that have the sound issue, by the way).

As much as I hate to have published this snippet (although, snippet … it’s 7:30 minutes) with an annoying hum, I’m very happy to be able to start showing you some of the material. So without further ado I encourage you to read about and watch part of the interview with Lilia on my In Full Flow project-blog. Happy viewing

So in between all the other work, I’m still interviewing people for In Full Flow. Yesterday, I went to Amsterdam and interviewed James Burke. For the first time I used public transport and it was a challenge to pack all my gear. Watch me explain on video, yesterday morning, right before I left.

Packed for an inteview with James from Elmine Wijnia on Vimeo.

And I attached a tripod to the side. It was heavy!

I’ve met James through the Dutch Connection, a network of expats and locals living mainly in Amsterdam. Over the course of a couple of years the network transformed into a foundation of which Ton, James and I were co-founders. Sadly, the foundation went nowhere, but the connections are still there. Ton and James even worked together on project around open data for the Ministry for Internal Affairs

James is a warm and wonderful guy. He now works as an interaction designer based in Amsterdam, but he was brought up in England and went to university in America. Before his current work he was a cook and despite his current occupation, food is (still) his big passion.

It was a lovely interview and I hope to be able to publish snippets very soon.

I’ve done 3 interviews for In Full Flow now and I’m starting to see differences between the conversations that emerge from my way of interviewing. I wrote about introverts yesterday and I started thinking on how the interviews were different in that respect.

Lilia’s interview was very reflective on her life and how things could be related (she’s an introvert) , Henriette was just talking about what happened in her life (she’s an extravert) and Peter was somewhere in between, albeit more on the reflective side.

I started out each interview without a clear goal. There are some general topics that I want to address in the interview, but I’m not working towards a conclusion in the conversation.

The question I asked myself last night was whether this approach is a proper one. Do I get the most out of my interviews going in with a relatively blank slate? Should I have different interview strategies for different personalities? What is the better strategy research wise?

What do you think?

(about the number in the title)

(I cross-posted this article on In Full Flow)

In the past few weeks I’ve made good progress on my Big Project for 2009.

1. I did a first interview with Lilia;
2. I worked further on the project plan;
3. I wrote an article for Smart People Magazine, which should be published in the next issue;

PLUS
(And this is the VERY exciting part)

4. I have a name for the project: In Full Flow; (yay!)
5. I worked really hard on creating a webspace, where I can collect all material relevant to the project;
6. Created a new video-update announcing all this:

Two major announcements from Elmine Wijnia on Vimeo.

So now it’s time for you to head over to http://infullflow.net and take a look at the website I created. I give you some insight on the name of the project there as well.

Subscribe to the Feed and/or the monthly newsletter if you want to stay updated.

Of course I will cross-post a lot of things here as well
