About this blog

This is my personal blog which I started in 2003. At first it was called Communigations, a variation on Communicative Investigations. The blog transformed itself more into a personal investigation than being a blog on communication and therefore needed a new name.As a fencer, the name of this blog reflects how I write my thoughts into coherent stories, fence them off from all the sidepaths and rapidly go back and forth, covering various topics that interest me.

A ‘lazy’ Sunday (63)
Grotere kaart weergeven
Had a lovely dinner with my brother and his girlfriend today. Quite relaxing, except for driving 187KM back and forth to the other side of the country. Not exactly the greenest thing to do, but sometimes social investment beats environmental care. Let’s hope someday soon these kind of visits do not require fossil [...]

Good plan: Dutch publications digitized (52)
The Royal Library (KB), the national library of The Netherlands, plans to digitize all Dutch publications since 1470. You could easily say what took them so long, but in this case I’d say rather late than never. Good plan!
From their policy for the next 3 years:
1. We offer everyone access to everything published in and [...]

We’re running out of salt (48)
We, the Dutch, almost forgot about winter.
With so few cold winters and little snow in the recent past, local governments shortened their stack of salt for the roads over the years. But now, because of the continuing snowfall, they are confronted with shortage of salt to keep the roads clear from snow and ice. [...]
Useful: a cover with light for the Sony Reader (46)
It wasn’t dark in the room while I recorded this, but the video turned out to be rather black at the beginning. It gives a nice dramatic turn when I turn on the cover light

The problem with New Year’s Day… (40)
…is that even if you don’t have a hang over you’re still hung over, because you’re sleep deprived, ate too much and had two glasses of champagne more than you should have. Always a pleasant way to start the new year.

Happy New Year!
Wishing you a loving and healthy 2010 full of fun, inspiring projects that will make the world a little bit better, for you, your family and the planet.
