Go check it out!
Curious as I am, whilst looking for the future roads Harry Potter will trod on (yes, I do like the books), I stumbled upon the website of the author, J.K.Rowling. I was charmed by it's appearance, using a clickable map to discover all sorts of things, from information on Ms Rowling herself to FAQ. The map represents a desk, which basically could be mine: as messy and full as my head is most of the time. The sites I normally visit are predominantly text based and therefore boring most of the time. I liked this site as it reminded me of a project I did with a fellow student to make a clickable map myself. I thought is was damn hard to do, since I'm not that familiar with programming. Lovely to see that others really make the Web an attractive place to be, especially for kids.
There are things...
It may seem, regarding my lack of writing, that nothing much is going on in my life. On the contrary, a lot of things are getting on track right now. I'm finishing the preparation for my 'blog in the classroom'- experiment with my father. The website is on air (I'm keeping it low-profile though, so I won't give you the link) and the first problem has been published. Before the students go work with the blog, I'll let them answer a questionnaire which I'll will repeat over time. I hope the kids are willing to do this experiment. In some respects they will have to, since their participation will be graded. I'm very curious what will happen, though. I'll hope to tell you more about this in the near future.
There are other things going on too. Gabriela Avram asked me to join in a modest project to infect people with blogging, I'm involved together with a friend of Ton and mine in setting up a new foundation and last week I recieved my first job offer (though I'm not sure whether I'm going to take it). So you see, there are things happening in my life!
Not in a blogging mode
Sorry for you as a reader, but I'm not really in blogging mode at the moment. I could bore you with all the things that I've read, but I'm not turning this blog into a book review blog. I could bore you with my job search, but since there aren't that many job openings for me there is not much to tell. I could bore you with my view of the world/presidential campaign/Dutch strikes/... Instead I chose to bore you with this posting that my off-line world is more appealing than my on-line world ;-)
Master thesis on line
For all those who are able to read Dutch I've put my master thesis on line in pdf. Een goed gesprek onder miljoenen ogen: het weblog als knooppunt voor on line interactie.
