Presenting at BlogTalk 2.0

BlogTalk_pres.JPG
So this afternoon I presented the preliminary results of my thesis. You can find the slides here. I think it went pretty well. Due to presenting in English I might have been a bit strong in my statements, not being nuanced enough. I can only hope people understood the main points. After my stay in Vienna I will have to rewrite my thesis and then I will publish the results in my blog. Hope you drop by in the upcoming weeks and read more about my research. It will probably be a startingpoint for more discussion ;)

The references I promised to publish:
- J.A.G.M. Van Dijk (1999), The Network Society: An Introduction to the Social Aspect of new media, Sage Publications Ltd.
- J. Habermas (1985), Theory of Communicative Action, Volume 1: Reason and the Rationalization of Society (T. McCarthy trans.), Beacon Press.

Great presentation Elmine - definitely not too strong! I found your use of Habermas and Van Dijk(I don't know this author) very appropriate as models for communications in blogs. My own studies (and focus for my research) use blogs as learning journals with students (to enhance reflection) and I'm currently wading my way through the communication theories. A question that your presentation raised for me - does honesty and truthfulness matter in a learning journal - can students "fake" learning? Does it matter? Thanks for thought provoking paper! ABB

A little bit more self-confidence: you can be proud of yourself, and we're proud of you!!

Thank you for your presentation! It describes very well and concisely why weblogs are indeed a new medium!

Hi Elmine, I'm a PhD-student studying weblogs using Habermas's theory on the public sphere. I stumbled into your blog and thought I'd say hi. I'm looking forward to reading your thesis, it's great that you'll publish it here!
